Turnstiles and pedestrian gates provide an effective means of controlling access to a site and indeed within a site where multi zoned levels of controlled access are required. For applications where a strict level of security control for pedestrians is required, then full height turnstiles should be considered. These are available with either a 90° or 120° rotor arm, the latter providing easier access through the turnstile, and can be supplied as single or dual units. A wide range of control systems can be used to control access through turnstile, see Access Control Systems, including interfacing with fire alarm systems to allow free access to fire muster points.
In lower security applications or where disabled (wheelchair) access is required then a self-closing hinged pedestrian access gate might be considered, or where a turnstile mechanism is still required but the level of security is lower, then waist height units are available, or for internal use tripod turnstiles.
